What happens at a children’s hospice?
Children’s hospices are not places of sadness. They’re places of light, life and love. At Keech, we go far beyond medical care. We support the whole family—from symptom control and emotional support to helping create lifelong memories.
We’re there during the darkest times—the shock of a diagnosis, or the heartbreak of saying goodbye. But we’re there for the joyful moments too—a first swim, a music therapy session, a quiet cuddle in the sensory room. This is care that helps children live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

Families like Bianca and Breanna’s
Mum Bianca shares her story:
“When Breanna was born, she was perfect to me. Even when the uncertainty came, I held on to hope. Breanna was diagnosed with Microcephaly—and our journey became one of learning, strength and love.”
“Keech has been with us every step of the way—through hospital stays, seizures, and the good days too. When you’re living with a palliative child, every moment really does matter.”

There are an estimated 99,000 seriously ill children in the UK. Many of them are not receiving the care they need – especially at the end of life – due to:
- Inconsistent government funding
- Workforce and skills shortages
- A postcode lottery in children’s palliative care
Together for Short Lives reports that up to two-thirds of children do not receive the standard of end-of-life care they need at home.
At Keech, just 30% of our funding comes from government sources. The remaining 70%—more than £5.5 million each year—must come from people like you. Our teams deliver complex, compassionate, round-the-clock care. But without urgent investment, this model is not sustainable.
