Kaval Hussain, age 19, has been presented with the Community Impact Award at the Luton Apprenticeship Awards, organised by Step Forward Luton, in recognition of her professional and compassionate work here at Keech.
Having joined us fresh from school in August 2022, Kaval started as a Business Administrator Apprentice and her hard work and dedication have led to her being appointed in a permanent role as a Care Services Administrator.
A journey of growth
Kaval’s journey from a shy school leaver to a confident professional is nothing short of inspirational.
After leaving school, Kaval stepped into an emotionally demanding environment where she interacts with patients and families at some of the hardest moments in their lives. Initially reserved, her natural warmth and emotional intelligence meant she quickly embraced her role, proving to be an essential part of the team.
Working on our reception desk, Kaval often greets people who are facing a terminal diagnosis or supporting a loved one in palliative care. Despite the challenges, she consistently provides reassurance, kindness and practical support, ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcome and valued.
Going above and beyond
Kaval’s impact goes beyond her official duties. Recognising the diversity of our patients, she has taken it upon herself to assist with language translation; for example, helping Urdu-speaking patients communicate more comfortably. These small yet significant actions have transformed patient experiences, making patients and their loved ones feel heard and supported.
In addition to her front-facing role, Kaval is also part of the team handling phone calls. Her patience, professionalism and ability to provide clear information have made her an indispensable part of the Keech family.
Recognition
Kaval has shown dedication to both her personal and professional growth. She achieved a distinction in her Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship and is now advancing through her Level 3 qualification. Her hard work and commitment led to her securing a permanent Care Services Administrator role with us – a testament to her talent and drive.
Reflecting on her Luton Apprenticeship Award, Kaval said: “I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to grow and learn at Keech Hospice. This apprenticeship has changed my life, and I feel incredibly honoured to receive this award. I want to thank my colleagues for all their support and for making Keech such a warm and welcoming place to work.”

The power in apprenticeships
Kaval’s story highlights the importance of apprenticeships – not only for those undertaking them but also for the organisations and communities they serve.
We’re really proud of Kaval and all she has achieved, as we are all our apprentices here at Keech, who make a huge difference on a daily basis to our team and the patients we care for. We feel privileged when an apprentice joins us, choosing to take their first step in their compassionate care career with Keech. Their work is a testament to the power of learning and the difference dedicated individuals can make.
