We’re proud to say we’ve a very diverse team at Keech Hospice. We’re also proud that women are represented across almost all roles, from front line care to senior leadership. This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible women in our workforce, who are helping to shape the future of healthcare.
The carers who care
Healthcare is more than simply a profession — it’s a calling, requiring compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Women have always played a vital role in this sector, and today they continue to lead the way in nursing, palliative care and community health.
Across the UK, women are delivering essential care every day, supporting patients and families, managing complex medical needs, and pioneering new ways to improve healthcare services.
Leading the way
Here at Keech Hospice, women don’t just make up the majority of our workforce — they also lead from the top. Our CEO Liz Searle has been at the helm of Keech since 2016, bringing over 30 years of leadership experience in cancer and palliative care. Her career includes shaping national care standards during her time with Macmillan and Sue Ryder; experiences that continue to influence her work today.
Liz is passionate about reshaping perceptions of hospice care, encouraging more open conversations about life, death, dying and grief. She believes hospices should be at the heart of the community, empowering people to talk about end-of-life care with confidence and compassion.
Our deputy CEO and Clinical Director, Elaine Tolliday, is another shining example of leadership in action. A registered nurse since 1991, Elaine joined Keech in 2009 and has dedicated her career to palliative care. With over a decade of experience as a Macmillan clinical nurse, she understands the challenges that patients and families face and is committed to ensuring they receive the best possible support here at Keech.

Celebrating women in healthcare
This International Women’s Day, we want to recognise and celebrate the incredible women who devote their lives to caring for others. Whether you’re a nurse, carer, doctor, therapist, or leader, the work you do changes lives and that deserves to be recognised.
Caring isn’t just a job; it’s a skill, a commitment and a strength. That’s why we’re celebrating the women who bring compassion, expertise, and dedication to their work every single day.
Happy International Women’s Day!
