Hundreds of handmade knitted hearts are helping to bring comfort and connection to patients and their loved ones, thanks to the kindness and generosity of our talented Craft Club volunteers.
Following a request from our In-Patient Unit, volunteers came together to create matching sets of hearts. One heart stays with the patient, while the others are given to family members and friends as a meaningful keepsake, providing a simple but powerful reminder of their connection.
The project has touched teams across Keech, with colleagues seeing first-hand the difference these small acts of kindness can make
Samantha Stocks, Specialist Palliative Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist said:
“The knitted hearts are such a beautiful gesture. They offer comfort, spark conversations and give families something tangible to hold onto during what can be a very emotional time.”
Neave Sheppard, Craft Club volunteer added:
“Knowing that something we’ve made by hand can bring comfort to families means so much. Every heart has been created with care, and it’s wonderful to know they are making a difference.”
Kevin Thompson, Clinical Nurse Specialist AIPU said:
“The response from patients and families has been incredibly moving. These hearts may be small, but the comfort and reassurance they provide is immense, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped create them.”
