We are very excited to reveal that Keech Hospice Care will feature in the new Luton edition of the board game MONOPOLY!
The Luton version of the world’s most popular board game hits shops in April 2024 and will feature famous Luton landmarks voted for by the public. And we’re one of them, having been selected to star on our very own Community Chest space.
Last August, it was announced that Luton would be getting its own official version of the world’s most popular family board game. The MONOPOLY: Luton Edition board game is being made by Winning Moves UK, an official MONOPOLY producer, under licence from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.
At the time, the public was invited to send in general suggestions for town landmarks — such as the Town Hall, Airport, Kenilworth Road and Wardown House — to feature in the game. Later, a charity search went out.
“A huge congratulations to Keech Hospice Care and welcome onto the official MONOPOLY: Luton Edition board,” says John Keen-Tomlinson, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK. “They are one of three charities that will star in the game. The other two charities, along with the identities of all the other spaces and customised cards, will be revealed when the game hits shops in the spring.”
Keech Hospice Care has been providing specialist care for the community since 1991, when it was called The Luton and Bedfordshire Hospice. In 2000, it began caring for children as well as adults, and now provides free specialist care for adults in Luton and south Bedfordshire, and children in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes who live with terminal illnesses. Care is provided from the hospice site in Luton, as well as in patients’ own homes, hospitals and schools – wherever their service is needed the most. Last year, over 2,500 patients and their families were supported by Keech.
“It is an honour to be included in this special edition MONOPOLY board game,” says Liz Searle, CEO at Keech Hospice Care. MONOPOLY is a family favourite, which brings joy to people of all ages and evokes many happy memories of years gone by. For our patients and team, seeing our very own space is something we’re all going to treasure. We are so incredibly grateful to the community for voting for us.”
John Keen-Tomlinson adds: “We feel that featuring charities on the board’s Community Chest spaces is a great fit, bearing in mind the community aspect of these unique MONOPOLY features. The response to the game and the opportunity to nominate three charities to be featured on the board has been overwhelming. A very big thank you to everyone who took the time to send in suggestions.”
In all, 30+ Luton landmarks and favourites are being showcased on the board, replacing the likes of ‘Mayfair’ and ‘Park Lane’ from the classic MONOPOLY original. The Chance and Community Chest cards are being customised as well.
Over the last 30 years, Winning Moves UK has produced official versions of MONOPOLY all over the world, from Palm Springs to Phuket and Dubai to Dublin. Now, the MONOPOLY dice will be rolling soon on Luton!
The MONOPOLY: Luton Edition game is scheduled to hit the shops next month.
